Did you know? Generally, you must live “separate and apart” from your spouse for one year in order to be eligible for a Divorce Order
A Divorce Order in Ontario is a court order that legally ends a marriage. It confirms that you and your spouse are officially divorced and free to remarry if you wish. A Divorce Order does not automatically address other family law issues such as property division & equalization, spousal support, child support, or child custody, decision making responsibilities and parenting time, those matters must be resolved separately, either by agreement or through the court. Once granted, the Divorce Order takes effect 31 days after it is issued, at which point it becomes a Certificate of Divorce.
